At the Church-Old Doors New Decor

The front doors of Sundahl Lutheran Church were held open  as Jane Kirsti Huso and Fred Addison Lukens left in a shower of rice following their May 17, 1975 wedding. The large heavy church doors faced North and would be removed later in the summer of 1975. An addition to the church was planned. Notice the brass kick plate attached to the bottom of each door.
The kick plates were removed from the doors and saved for ten years. Everyone who attended the 100th Anniversary Celebration of Sundahl was asked by Herlof Huso to sign their name on the kick plate. The signatures were then etched into the brass by Herlof who was responsible for the original idea and execution of this piece.
This guest book hangs in the completed addition, Heritage Hall, as an interesting memento of the Church Centennial.

It was part of Aneta's Diamond Jubilee. Pastor Anfinrud mentioned in his yearly report to the congregation that it was a unique experience. This service has been held annually on the Sunday morning following the Aneta Turkey Barbeque.
Singing on this photo at the first All Faith Service in Aneta from Sundahl Congregation are:  David Huso, Jim Huso, Randy Johnson, Brian Huso, David Anfinrud, Patrice Gigler, Karen Sundquist.

The following are four

At the Church-October 6, 1951

Above:  The present church building was being used before it was completely finished as these photos attest. With a few rescued pews from the church that had burned and several rows of chairs to seat their guests, Oscar Joseph Huso, Jr. and Nola Eloise Westman were married. We know it was not the first wedding to take place in the church building. Nola's sister Connie married Ralph Archer in June of that year. There were others beginning in June of 1950. The mother of the brides made the aisle runner to keep the trains on their dresses from dusting the uncarpeted floor.
Above:  Oscar J. Huso, Signa Engen Huso, and son Oscar Jr. (Sonny). Bride Nola with parents Odin Milton Westman, Esther Erlandson Westman. All members of Sundahl Lutheran Church.
A reception was held following the ceremony in the church basement. A sheet is hung in the kitchen to improve the background because the windows did not close and the floor was bare cement.
The wedding gifts interested the bride and groom, but I was impressed with the unfinished walls.
Unfinished walls are again the background and an unfinished floor underfoot which means this was also a view in the basement on that day. This marriage resulted in five children, all baptized and confirmed in Sundahl Lutheran Church: Odin James (Jim), Jane Kirsti, David Lynn, Nathan Joseph, and Holly June.

Welcome Home!

Have you ever peeked through the windows in these doors
to see this?
Have you walked down this aisle?
Were you baptized with water from this font?
Have you knelt at this railing
to beg forgiveness or make a sacred promise?
Have you walked up these steps
to be inspired by this view?
Have you listened for this bell to ring?
Are you or your family members pictured in this book?
Have you walked through this door?
Or this door?
Have you eaten from these plates
and drunk coffee from these cups?
Have you listened to the Scriptures being read in this sanctuary?
And heard the Good News from this pulpit?
Then in some way, Sundahl Lutheran is your church.
Welcome Home!
